Dave Worrall Out For 9 Months With Knee Injury

It never rains but it pours as the saying goes and Beverley RUFC players, supporters and officials will certainly endorse that. Last Saturday’s excellent win over high flying Chester was overshadowed by the news that back row forward ’s injury the previous week at Lymm is far more serious than at first thought.

Initial investigation by the Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon has revealed severe damage to his knee ligaments and his cartilage and he will be having surgery next week. He has been told that the injury will keep him out for at least 9 months.

Coach and playing colleague said today;

“This is a tremendous blow to Dave and the club. Not only will we miss the impact of his play on the field, but he is an enormous influence in the dressing room. In fact he is a talisman and all of the younger players look up to him and try to follow his lead. Having played alongside him in the back row for years I have seen this first hand and he will take a lot of replacing. We all wish him well in his rehab and hope he has a speedy and full recovery”

To add to the club’s woes the injury list continues to grow with locks Gavin Gibson (hand), Craig Hancock (hand) and back row man Fraley Hopa (kneck) all picking up their injuries on Saturday. None would be fit to play this week but, fortunately the Beavers have no game and the break may improve their chances of being fit enough for the trip to Bradford & Bingley on Saturday week.
