United Progress In Tesco Cup With Top Class Display

Mill Lane United progressed into the next round of the Cup with an impressive team performance against joint top of the table Malet Lambert.

Straight from the kick off the Beverley side made their intentions known with great passing football that had their opponents chasing shadows.

Driven on by the the central midfield partnership of Emma Johnson and Mill Lane United were determined to be first to every ball and this early enthusiasm was rewarded with a fine strike from goal machine Emma Smith to give Mill Lane United a 1 0 lead within 5 minutes.

The early goal  settled Mill Lane United down and for the rest off the half they played some excellent attacking football which was rewarded with 4 more goal for Emma Johnson, Jodie Brown, Courtney Fee and a second goal for Emma Smith.

The first half performance was just reward for a totally committed performance built on a strong defensive effort by Amy Radford ,Emily Holliday,Chloe Bell and Chloe Johnstone who never gave the Malet forward line an inch of space which was typifield when for once during the half Malet Lambert broke free , but tremendous pressure from goal keeper Emily Hood made the Malet Lambert player shoot wide.

The defence was well supported by the midfield of Millie O’Neill , ,Emma Johnson and Emma Smith who covered every blade of grass to totally dominate their opponents and played some wonderfull football to score some high class goals.Up front Jodie Brown, and substitute Cortney Fee all battled hard against some physical defending.

The second half started and credit to the Mill Lane United substitutes of Tonya Storr who never shirked a challenge when the boots were flying , and   were also  introduced and were straight in to the thick of things as Mill Lane United continued to dominate.Another goal soon followed when a shot flew passed the goalkeeper to give Smith another hatrick and Mill Lane United a 6 0 lead.

Malet at this stage could of thrown in the towel but  led by Aimee Mathews,Ellie Shepard and Lauren Holmes they continued to battle for every ball to keep Mill Lane United out for the rest of the game.

The final whistle blew and Mill Lane United are in the hat for the next round after their best performance of the season.Parents man of the match went to captain Emily Holliday after a faultless defensive display.Managers man of the match was given to to the full 15 girl squad after the best performance of the season when every girl contributed in a performance of skill and commitment.
