Archive Tribute To Towers Of Beverley

For centuries, and have been the enduring landmarks of the town.

As buildings and people have come and gone, these towers have remained, an ever present part of the landscape for generations of Beverlonians.

Now, it is an undeniable truth that there are fewer people attending church services and so our general knowledge about the Beverley Minster and the church of St Mary’s is in decline.

Many of us know them simply as magnificent and beautiful structures that characterise our town, but could say little else to describe their history and architecture.

The is giving people a chance to rectify this loss of knowledge and improve their understanding of what makes these buildings so great, when the ‘Film & Sound Archive Presents…’ series returns this month with a repeat of the video presentation ‘Beverley Minster & St Mary’s Church’ at the archive cinema in the Treasure House.

Collections Officer, , said:  “If you’re a great admirer of these buildings but, like me, seldom have the opportunity to go inside them, this video presentation is a fascinating education on the history and architecture of the Minster and St Mary’s.”

The presentation features contemporary local documentary films that take in some of the finer details of the buildings, both inside and out.

‘Beverley Minster & St Mary’s Church’ will be screened on Tuesday, 19th July at 6.30pm in the Education Room.  Tickets are £3 and booking is essential as places are limited.
