Beverley Town Girls Cricket Teams Crowned Champions

This week is the biggest week this year in the junior girls cricketing calendar Tuesday was the under 11’s competition at Harrogate County Cricket Club and Wednesday was the under 13’s competition at Pocklington Grammar School.

Both teams have been practicing hard throughout the winter at Longcroft and in the spring at Norwood Recreation Ground and where looking forward to the challenge of taking on the rest of Yorkshire.

The Under 11’s Report

We  started very well, at this level and age group they play pairs cricket, very nervous at the start but restricted Aston Hall to 223 but reached 247 for 1 first game in the bag , Up second restricting the opposition to 222 we reached 263 for 0 and started to believe we could be onto something good!, bowling and fielding well taken catches and 2 direct hits saw the girls grow in confidence as the day went on.

The third game was v South Milford a team who had also won both games by big scores so this was the one to win, batting first they restricted us to 236 for 1 against a good team of bowlers, fielding very well, we restricted them, and they required 12 off the last over, Captain Rebecca Hill took responsibility for the final over, down to the last ball with 4 required to win, standing up and quick thinking Towns wicket keeper Courtney Nichol whipped the bails off and sealed a great victory, being Yorkshire Champions was now Towns to lose!

Up next Richmondshire Vipors batting first and getting 268 for 0 was always going to be too many as Towns bowlers gave nothing away and won by 44 runs!

Last game and with confidence sky high we batted first hitting 281 for 0 the highest total of the day by any team and far too many for the opposition and that was that! Played 5 won 5.

Lady Taveners Yorkshire Champions Beverley Town Under 11’s all the team was fantastic on the day and with 5 of the team first game, and  having 1,2 or in 1 case 3 more years at this level the future looks very bright, Charlie Hall aged 8, 4 over’s 1 maiden 0 wickets for 9! I will take that myself this weekend!

The Under 13’s Report

A slow start saw the team lose the first game to Sheffield Transport, warming up and getting more confidence the girls beat Holme Valley then Pannal before lunch. Next game after saw Town beat North Stainley, won 3 and lost 1, like 2 other sides! It was all down to the last game v Gildersome our game was the last to start which helped us as we would know how many we needed if we had any chance of doing this amazing double, we knew from the start we had the worst run rate so it was going to be tough, on a very big pitch good fielding and tight bowling restricted Gildersome to 46 a total we could reach but how many more would we need?

When all the math’s had been done and the dust settled, we needed 88 off only 8 over’s, a massive run chase, after 2 over’s we had reached 28 and 88 looked a long way off!  But some super big hitting by openers Relish Ward (23 ret) and Megan Siddown (22 ret) saw us reach 50 at the end of the 4th over! It was on, the double! After 7 over’s with the total on 74, 15 required from the last over, in a over with 3 no balls we hit a amazing 26 run to finished on 100 for 2 from 8 over.
