The appearance of Frankie Dettori at Beverley Racecourse’s Hilary Needler Trophy night could spell double trouble for the bookies.
Dettori returned to the Westwood last season after a five-year break from the course and claimed four winners from five rides early in the season.
He’s back for two rides tonight and it’s his first, Solicitor in the 7pm Kevin Donkin Memorial Handicap, that is generating the most interest.
Solicitor won over course and distance at Beverley last year, but was reported lame after his last run at Glorious Goodwood.
It’s unlikely Dettori would ride anything but a strong contender and with the great man on his back, Solicitor will be in the mix when it counts.
His early price of 4-1 seems worth snapping up.
Dettori’s other ride sees him partner the hot favourite Vocational in the 7.30pm Hilary Needler Trophy. The Mark Johnston-trained two-year old has showed great early season form, winning at Warwick first time out and then finishing second at York in his other race.
Although drawn eight of nine, with low draws usually preferable on the 5f sprint, Vocational will shorten as the big race approaches.
