Acko Double Sees Colts End With 5-1 Victory

Daniel Atkinson bagged a quickfire double as the brought another successful season to an end today.

In a distinctly end-of-season encounter, the Colts proved far too good for Schooner FC on their home ground and the big local crowd cheered their team to a 5-1 victory.

The match was notable for a rare appearance from boss Tony Henderson. He brought himself on midway through the second half, but failed to distinguish himself as he missed an easy chance one-on-one with the Schooner keeper. His claim that “it bobbled” didn’t cut much ice.

Colts chairman Rob Hunter was forced to referee much of the match as their intended referee failed to show, but it was an easy game for him to officiate.

Mark Claxton opened the scoring early in the first half before ‘Acko’ showed his finishing skills to notch twice to make it 3-0.

And it became 4-0 shortly before the break as Michael ‘Massive’ Duplock scored a rare goal to the delight of the home support.

The second-half was more even and Schooner made it 4-1 before the Colts struck again through Asa Pardoe.

Pardoe switched feet with only the keeper to beat and slotted home a cool finish into the left-hand corner with Henderson looking on and free in space.  Pardoe revealed afterwards “it’s what I do”.

It brought to an end a great season for the Colts who won their second successive promotion, this time from Hull Men’s Sunday League Division Three Wyke.

But with Steve Grantham on his way and Atkinson unsure over his future, much work must be done by Henderson and Hunter to prepare for what will be a step up in class next season.
