Humber Colts Score Seven in Away Win

Today the  Shanghai massive made the arduous journey in covoy accross what seemed like 3 counties to take on , despite the absence of  their inspiring line leader Robert Northern due to family commitments this turned out to be another captivating sunday morning stroll in the park for the Humber Colts.  Dee Street started the liveliest and held the upper hand in the early exchanges and took the lead after 6 mins.

This seemed to spark a bit of life in to the Colts and  a searching ball down the right channel for debutant Danny Atkinson to latch on to resulted in the Dee Street keeper ending up in a heap at the edge of his area(Atkinson booked). After good work in the box by Darren “Archie” Jenkinson he was phsythed down by the Dee St centre-back which resulted in a penalty being awarded by the Referee, Michael “Clacko” Claxton stepped up and expertly despatched the spot kick to restore parity. Immediatly after the re-start Dee st again attacked the colts defence and scored a screamer from 22.2yards travelling at speed of 54.9mph as the Colts defence stood and stared(2-1).

The next chance fell to the Colts as latched on to a loose ball in midfield, made himself a couple of yards and unleashed a Daisy cutter which shaved the graffiti off the left hand upright. On 23 mins the referee once again  pointed to the spot in favour of the Colts this time for hand ball and once again this resulted in the ever-dependable(but sometimes a little greedy) clacko firing home his second to level things up(2-2). Before the break two quick strikes from the impressive recent signing Danny Atkinson, arriving stealth like at the back post  gave the colts a commanding 4-2 lead at the interval. and Clacko were starting to take control of the midfield battle as the half came to a close which boded well for the second half.

Fortunately no pots were thrown at half time but A stern talking to by manager was required after his sides slow start, however this seemed to fall on deaf ears and  didnt seem to take effect after Dee street again started the half the livlier and were awarded a penalty to pull the score back to 4-3, Fortunately for the Colts the taker fluffed his lines and hit the wodwork, this was a big let-off for the Colts and their 3rd wake-up call of the match, this time they responded in keeping with their title credentials, and after good work down the left flank from the “evergreen” Steve Grantham which resulted in a corner, the always dependable Asa pardoe rose “salmon like” on the penalty spot and rifalled home a bullet header (5-3).

On 62mins Atkinson(calf) and Jenkinson(tactical) were substituted to make way for Craig “Elmo” Ellis and Michael “Massive” Duplock, this proved to be an inspired move by the Colts boss as they pushed on and gave the Dee St left-back, Ben “ice cream legs” Nevis a torrid time. Numerous chances fell to the colts forward line late in the second half as Dee St held a high line as they looked for a way back in to this game, however they were unable to cope with the pace of the Colts front line and Massive could well of added to the tally with a bit more fortune after another break down the right ended in an attempted lob as the Dee St keeper (Grobbelar like) rushed out of his area, however a little too much air on the ball from Massive meant the keeper could retreat in time to stop the ball. After 82 and 86mins Two well taken goals from substitute Elmo, the latter a brave header with the Dee Street  keeper ensured another victory for the colts on their travels.

This was a solid workmanlike display from the Colts and special mention to Frampton who despite playing slightly wider than he would of liked put in a tireless display. Man of the Match Jake Fox who promises a bright future for the colts if  Chairman Robert Hunter can tie him up to a new long term contract before the summer transfer window opens. The travelling army of devoted fans were elated on this almost tropical sunday morning off hessle road and gave their heroes a raptuous ovation as they trooped off the pitch, even the constant drone of a couple of chavs on a quad for the majority of the day couldn’t take the gloss off this performance.
