Alberto Raises Over £3000 by Completing the New York Marathon

Beverley resident and Humber Pilot completed  his first ING in November in 3 hours 50 minutes and 43 seconds, finishing 10846th out of 44829 runners who completed the course.  He has raised well over three thousand pounds so far in support of Children with Leukaemia.

Alberto was motivated to take on the challenge when his daughter’s schoolfriend lost her 8 year old brother to leukaemia two years ago.  Riley Cameron was admitted to hospital on a Wednesday and died on the following Sunday. Riley had been a pupil at the St. John’s Primary School of Beverley, and the whole community was deeply affected.

Alberto considers his contribution of running the 26.2 miles of the New York Marathon as a minimal effort.  “I totally enjoyed every step of it” Alberto told HU17.net.  “The atmosphere was fantastic, with unbelievable support from the crowd.  We just wanted to collect as much we could, to try and avoid such a waste of life that still affects young people today”.

Many people from Beverley supported Alberto in this very worthy cause.  In particular, Alberto would like to thank Father Lovatt and the Parishioners of St John of Beverley Church, Mrs Rogerson & staff and parents at St. John Primary School, Managers and staff at Kidz@Annie’s Day Nursery, Greenwood & Minstergate Surgeries, parents involved with Beverley Leisure Centre and music/dance groups, and many residents in Warwick Drive, Kempton Close and Goodwood Close in Molescroft.

Alberto also wished to thank his wife Ann and all his friends and family, Rachel Gadie and Neil Cameron.  Jane Lawrance provided free for him in Manhattan.  Associated British Ports Hull were the biggest single donor.

He also received support from Vinarius wine & music culture in Monopoli (Italy), Milan Club ’87 Monopoli (Italy), Rachel Collins, Abi Smeaton, Sarah Cudbertson (Port House) , VTS Humber and Crew at Spurn Point, Immingham Marine Control Centre, Data Centre, colleagues at Port House and his fellow Humber Pilots.

At present, Alberto has collected   £3300.42
