Rangers Conquer Rovers in the Cup

Molescroft Rangers got back to winning ways with a comfortable victory against lower league opposition in Round 3 of the Junior Country Cup.  Manager Healey shuffled the team, giving starts to (who lined up in centre midfield), Milner (who started at left back without a hangover for once) and Mark Collingwood (who made his first appearance of the season coming in for Windeler who was banned).   Moley also welcomed back goal-keeper Bryce, and his assured handling instantly settled down the team, with the defence unrecognisable from the team who had defended so badly the week before.

The 1st half was a low key affair, with the visitors rarely troubling Molescroft, but the hosts also struggled to get out of second gear.  The strike force of Tony “Iceman” Walker and Pikey Spruce missed chances they would both normally bury.

Molescroft had the full management team on the sidelines.  Manager Healey was joined by nutritionalist Gary Cappleman along with Assistant Recreational Soccer Executive James “Domino” Radley who was back after a week off ironing.   A shy and retiring guy, Radders struggles with such an important sounding title and insists the players call him by the initials .

Moley needed waking up and at half time that’s exactly what they got.  , who’d been rested after performing at an open mic night at the Welly Club the previous evening, treated his team-mates to a sample of what he’d performed; dressed as a Shinobi Ninja, his dark and moody performance, full of raw energy, seemed to breathe new life into Moley who took the field again thankful that none of them had actually been to the Welly the night before.

Molescroft attacked from the start of the half but took fifteen minutes to finally break the deadlock, with Captain Nicholson heading in off an “Iceman” Delap-style throw.  This broke Holme Rovers’ resistance, and Molescroft scored again through Pikey Spruce who continued his run of a goal in every game, the relief clear for all to see as he released all of his bodily functions, much to the bemusement and disgust of players and supporters alike.  On came Warmsly for Walker, and his pace caused problems for the Holme Rovers’ defence right from the start, nearly scoring twice in quick succession.  Moley finally made it three minutes before time with sub Richard Dixon, fully recovered from his rib removal op, side-footing in from three yards out.
