After last weeks convincing wins by both teams a tough game was expected with confidences being high.
With the wind firmly behind the hosts they started very well in what turned out to be a very tight first half. Beverley went forward whenever possible and looked to play their trademark football and did very well in the testing conditions. Whitestar started to create clear cut chances and should of found themselves ahead but Fisher fired over.
Ellie Richardson on her return from injury battled tirelessly and got forward to create chances for her team mates, while the impressive Zoe Ellis looked neat and tidy while producing some excellent football as always. On 30 minutes Lauren Coleman received a pass from Carisa Mitcheson and put in a shot come cross that sailed into the top corner of the net that put Whitestar 1 up. The hosts responded well but the half ended 1-0.
This was the toughest half of football Beverley had faced all season and they certainly responded well in producing a half full of guts, determination and skill and they passed the test with flying colours.
In the second half Beverley wasted no time in showing what they were capable of and Lauren Coleman scored a free kick on 46 minutes to double the lead from 25 yards. Whitestar only had to wait a further 3 minutes before the Pinefllet keeper who had been having an excellent game got into a pickle and spilled a routine cross, the ball fell kindly to Rachel (halibut) Fisher who had battered the defence in the first half and to rub salt into the wounds to made it 3-0. It would of been easy for Pinefleet to roll over but they continued to put the effort in but found Beverley in determined mood.
Beverley’s attacking prowess meant they attacked in numbers at every occasion, often star of the show Kayleigh Oliver took over and continued her amazing scoring record and scored a 5 minute hat trick with some excellent finishes to put the game well and truely beyond the hosts. Whenever Pinefleet did attack captain Mel Marsden was once again in unbeatable mood and denied the opposition any space or opportunity while keeper Dale Moat looked assured and never put a foot wrong. Before the end Olly got her 4th and Whitestars seventh following some great one touch football followed by a through ball by Becks Thompson that strikers dream of before rounding the keeper.
This was an excellent game of football and was played in the right spirit from both teams. There were many highlights, not to mention the home linesman disappering head first over the barrier when collecting a football or Lauren (Colo) stepping on the ball when easier to score denying herself the chance of grabbing a hat trick. It was a tough game and the girls should rightly be pleased with ther performance.
Women of the match once again was a tough decision with Zoe Ellis, Rico and Colo both running eventual winner Mel Marsden very close. Mel was immense and while she blocked and tackled everything that came her way she led her team by example while also being a threat at set pieces.
Next week Beverley Whitestar face South Cave at home and will be looking to once again gain victory in order to push on with their promotion charge.
