Autumn Lectures at the Treasure House

The council’s museums service is pleased to announce a series of autumn lectures at the , Beverley.

Dr David Marchant, museums registrar, will begin the series on 12 October with a talk on ‘The South Cave weapons cache – seven years on, what have we learned?’ This will be followed by Janet Tierney’s ‘Past times, past apparel – a look at costumes in the East Riding museum service collections’ on Tuesday, 19 October.

Janet is curator of Goole Museum and and Museum of East Riding Rural Life. The series concludes with what is sure to be a fascinating lecture by Dr Kevin Leahy on the Staffordshire Hoard, the UK’s largest haul of Anglo-Saxon gold treasure which was discovered by a metal detectorist in a field. Dr Leahy is responsible for documenting all the Staffordshire Hoard find and he is also the Council for British Archaeology’s national adviser on metalwork.
