Beverley CC 1st XI Vs Fenner

Town 1st XI did their fight against relegation from the York Premier League no harm at all when they completed the double over Hull side Fenner at Norwood Park.

Alex Morrell gave his side the perfect start when he took a wicket with the first ball of the game. It took a third wicket stand of 106, which starred the impressive Dom Rhodes (77), to put the visitors back in the game though Town should have had him dismissed as chances of varying degrees of difficulty went begging.

Though chances were spilled Beverley did record three run outs as their fielding improved markedly in the second half of the innings. A fifty from Will Rhodes left Fenner on 206 for 6 from a reduced allocation of 47 overs. Morrell, with 2 for 60 and Jamie Mitchell (1-40) were the only bowlers to take wickets though, once again, Simon Roe was economical in bowling 13 overs for 42.

Opener Iain Gillyon (36) led the Beverley response and , in form and by a long way Town’s major run-maker this season, weighed in with 37 before holing out near the boundary. Then it was the turn of Jamie Mitchell to impose himself on the Fenner attack. A series of superb shots, including one majestic on drive, in tandem with an important, timely and aggressive contribution from Jon Vodden (19), put Town within sight of the winning post.

Captain (15 no) attacked from ball one and launched a massive six to win the game with Mitchell undefeated on a fine 60, and the game was won with more than three overs to spare.

Beverley 1st XI beat Fenner 1st XI by 5 wickets, Fenner 206 for 6 CC 1st XI 210 for 5
