Self Defence Classes @ Beverley Leisure Centre

The is running a series of self defence classes on Thursday nights which cater for all abilities.

The classes include Ju Jitsu for children through to adult, from beginner to black belt, with regular grading sessions throughout the year.

The club is registered with the United Martial Arts International Guild and has been running for some 20 years.

Senior coach Colin Sangwin, a ninth degree Ju Jitsu black belt, who has taught for 32 years, said:

“Coming to our classes can make a huge difference to the confidence of some students.  We have had a couple of cases where female students have successfully used their knowledge of self defence for their own protection.”

Mandy Joules, a third degree black belt, who has assisted coaching the club for 10 years, said:

“The skills help improve self discipline, agility and of course fitness.  Children with behavioural issues can benefit from attending the sessions, and all enjoy the social side.”

The classes are on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8pm for five to 16 year olds, and 8pm to 9pm for adults.

All new students can benefit from two free taster sessions, and the classes continue through the school holidays, except for 12 August.

The price per session after the taster sessions is £4.10 for juniors and £4.30 for adults.
