Soccer Sixes Plays on Despite the Snow

Even a snowy, wind swept night could not stop the teams turning our for what was an entertaining evening of Soccer Sixes . After 20 mins of line sweeping and hunting for half way spots, the matches eventually got underway.

The first match saw top of the table Waterside v AJ’s, who turned up a man down and hoping the game would be called off. The returning Phil Clark broke the deadlock early on and the match continued with Waterside dominate long spells of possession without really creating too many chances. AJ’s defended really well and scored a fine counter attacking goal mid way through the second half, before shutting up shop and taking a hard earned and well deserved point.

Real Soldierdad solidified their second place standing in the absence of the Trogs with a 1 – 0 victory over angel. The match was a tight affair with Soldierdad spurning several good chances.

BarceHullona continued their impressive new year form with their third straight victory, taking a 2 – 0 win over Borussia Teeth. Rob Lever smashed home his second of the season with Nick ‘C**k Nose’ Moy bagging the other goal. Borussia again played some good football and just need a win under their belt before the shift into gear and start picking up points.

Weighton v Black Sox was very much a one sided affair, with Weighton bagging 9 goals and Black Sox not getting anywhere near the oppositions goal! What made matters worse for the Sox was the introduction of Soccers Sixes organisor Jay Rowley to make up the numbers. Within three minutes of entering the fray, Jay had made two short back passes and missed a ball to feet, all of which lead to goal – the second half didn’t get any better!!!

The final game saw take on Not Very Athletic, literally! After a couple of tasty challenges and player reactions, temperatures started to boil, and Rowley had to jump pitches to assist referee Matt Heard control the players. Fortunately it was nothing more than handbags and frustrations, and when everything settled down, Only  the an early goal from Depo could separate the sides.

Fingers crossed the team at get the pitch cleared before it freezes over and is called off again.
