Langdale End East Yorkshire Cross Country

The third race of the East Yorkshire Cross Country League was hosted by Scarborough AC at last Sunday.  Heavy rain during the week resulted in lots of mud and very sticky conditions.

Scarborough athletes had home advantage and supplied the first man to finish, Danny Schofield, and the first lady, Hester Butterworth, both two minutes ahead of their nearest rival.

Beverley AC athletes were out in force and James Pearson and Aubrey Morrell both finished in the top ten.  With another three races left in the series the men’s team is currently in fourth position overall.  They may challenge for third place but it looks unlikely that they will overtake City of Hull and Scarborough who are currently leading the league.

The Beverley ladies’ team was strengthened by the welcome return of Clare Bracken.  In her first appearance this season Bracken led her team home in 51.12 and finished in eleventh position overall.  Cross country regulars and Sam Allen made up the team which has moved up one place to fourth position in the league.

Everybody seemed to thoroughly enjoy the race.  The terrain and conditions were challenging but the views on the top of the hills were spectacular.
