Council Tax Rise To Tackle Adult Social Care ‘Unfair’ On Local People

The Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Steve Brady, is preparing to present his Budget Statement for the 2017/18 financial year.

The proposals, which will be presented to Finance & Value for Money Overview and Scrutiny (17 February) meeting, Cabinet (20 February) and Full Council (23 February), set out the suggested plan for the budget in 2017/18, the financial plan for the next three years and proposals to raise Council Tax by 1.99% to help fund Council Services plus a further 3% to help fund Adult Social Care costs in line with the additional powers to do so by the Government .

The people of Hull are being invited to take part in an ambitious public art project inspired by the female trailblazers of the city as part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

Revolutionary Makers is a large scale collaborative commission, which will culminate in an installation in Hull City Hall ahead of WOW Hull (10-12 March), part of a global movement to champion gender equality. Through a weekend of talks, music, debate, comedy and performance, WOW Hull will celebrate International Women’s Day.

Clarence House has confirmed today that The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will visit Hull on the 8 February as Hull celebrates its year as the UK City of Culture.

The tour will take in visits to the Ferens Art Gallery, Holy Trinity Church, the literacy charity First Story at The Deep and The Royal Shakespeare Company outreach programme at the Goodwin Development Trust.

The song ‘A Place They Called Forgotten Town’ is a musical and lyrical reworking by Hull-born Henry Priestman of his late 1980’s chart hit ‘Forgotten Town’ by The Christians which was written about the state of the country at the time (the North especially), which particularly affected his home town.

Hull City Council, in partnership with Hull Culture and Leisure, has secured over £106,000 for a new tennis court facility and a hard surface playing area at Costello Playing Fields in Hull.

Following a successful bid to the Lawn Tennis Association for funding of £106,626, with an additional £60,000 being provided from the Council’s West Area Committee, a condemned former tennis court area in the park will now receive a new lease of life.
