All fixtures and training for adult grassroots football have been suspended with immediate effect. This is a result of the UK Government’s announcement of further national Covid-19 restrictions.
East Riding County Football League say that they will monitor the situation. They also say they are disappointed with the situation given how the season has already been impacted.
In a statement released, a spokesperson for the East Riding County Football League said;
“Once again, this is a disappointing situation in what has already been a heavily impacted season.
However, the safety of all of our players, club officials, match officials and our fantastic volunteers, continues to be the priority.”
“As any restart to League Fixtures is unlikely to occur before February 2021, all of the scheduled league fixtures for January have been cancelled. The league’s Full-Time site will be updated to reflect this.”
“We are not planning to schedule any league fixtures for February until we receive updated guidance from the FA confirming when grassroots football can resume.”
Grassroots Football Impacted By Latest Government Lockdown
“The League Senior Cup, League Junior Cup and Harold Robinson Memorial Cup also continue to be on hold.”
“County Cups competitions are administered by the East Riding FA and the league are currently awaiting an update on these from the competitions secretary.”
“At this stage, we don’t have any firm guidance on when adult grassroots football will be able to recommence.”
“We will continue to review guidance from the UK Government, DCMS and FA, as and when it is published and will be liaising with the East Riding County FA and other leagues in the region as to the current situation.”
“Over the coming days and weeks, the league will be considering potential options for the remainder of the current season.”
“However, much will depend on when we can resume, the willingness and readiness of Clubs for a return and ground availability.”
“We appreciate your patience during this period and will communicate further updates as soon as these are available. In the meantime, please adhere to the restrictions which are in place and stay safe.”
