Make Your Mark is an opportunity for 11-18-year-olds across the UK to have their say and begin their democratic journey by voting on the policies they want to introduce or change.

The issues that are voted for will be debated by Members of Youth Parliament. They will campaign to influence the UK Parliament and their local representatives, ensuring that the views of young people are listened to by decision-makers.

The month-long campaign will give young people the opportunity to declare the most important issues facing the country.

Voting takes place online on the UK Parliament website.

Councillor , Portfolio Holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children said:

“Make Your Mark is an incredible opportunity for young people to have a say on important issues affecting them and provides an opportunity to experience democracy in action. I urge young people in Hull to use their vote in the Make Your Mark ballot.”

Winnie Chinyadza, Member of UK Youth Parliament said: “Young people deserve to have their issues heard and their issues listened to. The next generations of leaders, doctors, lawyers, musicians, artists or shopkeepers deserve to have a world where they know they had a say. Make Your Mark is not just about voting, it’s about democracy and our basic constitution and rights.”

The campaign is now in its ninth year and it is supported by the British Youth Council, UK Parliament and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The results of the campaign will be brought to the attention of UK Government Ministers including Minister for Civil Society, Baroness Barran MBE, who is responsible for youth policy.

Make Your Mark runs until 30 November.
