Last weekend saw the Samurai Judo Championships taking place in Kidderminster. Representing was Beau Chan.

At just 10 years old, Beau is a player who is growing with each competition experience.

The Championships are designed for developing players so that everybody gets to fight opponents of a similar grade.

Beau, however, was the youngest in his group of judoka up to 14 years old.  In his first fight, Beau threw his opponent with a lovely Uchi Mata. He followed this up with a secure hold down to win the fight.

Another point scoring throw won the second fight which put Beau into the finals.

It was a very close fight seeing Beau take the lead with a great foot sweep, which he has been practising a lot in training.

He held on to his lead for most of the fight but was caught in a hold-down with seconds to go. Unfortunately, he couldn’t escape the hold and had to settle for second place overall.
