Mason Campbell was fighting in the -66kg category and whilst Mason put up a couple of good fights it wasn’t to be his day and was knocked out of the competition in the early stages.
James Hindle, fighting in the -60kg category had three very good fights winning his first with a well-executed strangle. He lost his next two fights but was in good form and only lost to previous home nation medalists. James continues to improve with his judo in only his first year in this age band.
Tommy Jackson, also fighting in the -60kg but on the other side of the draw to James had a good day after a bad start.
He lost his first fight after going deep into Golden Score in what was a very close match. Tommy then had to fight his way back through the repechage taking each win one at a time until he made into the Bronze medal fight, five fights later.
By this time Tommy had found his form and made quick work of the fight, throwing his opponent for 10 points, a match win and a well-earned Bronze medal.
There are no easy opponents at this level of judo and EYJA would like to congratulate all 3 boys on their performances.
East Yorkshire Judo would also like to wish Tommy Jackson good luck having been selected to fight for England in the upcoming European Cup in Spain.
EYJA have recently set up a dojo in Hull and now hold regular training sessions there. They are also expanding further and will be setting up dedicated beginners sessions for both adults and children along with children’s’ classes at a second venue in Hull.
