Late October will see more events organised by East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s countryside access team, designed to make the most of the stunning countryside in the area.

An Autumn Migration Birdwatch will take place at South Landing Local Nature Reserve at Flamborough on Sunday, 20 October from 9.30 am – 11.30 am , led by a local birdwatching guide with Yorkshire Coast Nature.

Flamborough Headland is one of the best places in the UK to experience bird migration, as Scandinavian migrant birds cross the North Sea for berries and milder winters. A telescope will be available, but participants should bring their own binoculars.

The event will include an easy walk of up to two miles.  Booking is essential, and the event costs £3.50 for adults; £2.50 for adults over 60 and children/young ; and £9 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).

Parks Local Nature Reserve (off Long Lane, Beverley) will host an Introduction to Bushcraft on Saturday, 26 October from 10am – 12.30pm. This will be a chance to learn some of the basic skills required to survive and thrive in the wilderness. Participants will look at building an improvised Tarp shelter and how to light a fire. They will also discover how to improve their awareness of the woodland and environment through tracking, natural navigation and foraging.

Booking is essential, and the event costs £3.50 for adults; £2.50 for adults over 60 and children/young people; and £9 for a family ticket (two adults and two children).

The October programme will finish with a half-term Kids go Wild event on Tuesday, 29 October – Hibernation Dens will be at Country Park Local Nature Reserve from 10am -12 noon and from 1.30pm – 3.30pm.

This will be an opportunity to help wildlife by building hibernation homes in the woods for insects, amphibians and small mammals. The event is suitable for children, accompanied by adults.

Meet at Hessle Foreshore entrance, and park along Hessle Foreshore.  Booking is essential; tickets cost £2.50 for children, and accompanying adults go free.
