in , East Yorkshire have been named as a finalist in the 2019 White Rose Awards, the largest awards ceremony in the UK.  

The theatre is in the Arts and Culture category, and it is the first time they have been up for such a prestigious award. This marks a significant achievement for this small professional theatre that opened in late 2014 that is run by volunteers from the local community. 

Tom Wilders, ERT Director said;

“I am delighted that the Theatre has been shortlisted. As a small theatre and not receiving significant public funding this is a tribute to the volunteers who run the Theatre for their hard work and dedication and serves as great recognition for the quality of shows that we have produced.” 

Elaine Lemm, White Rose Award Chair added;

“This year’s panel of prestigious industry-wide experts have been well and truly put through their paces shortlisting for the recently revamped White Rose Awards. With the standard of entries continuing to rise, the competition was fierce and choosing finalists not easy. With the attention to detail, passion and sheer hard work seen from so many superb businesses, it is easy to see why Yorkshire has an outstanding reputation for and hospitality.” 

This shortly followed the news that ERT’s production of Beryl, written by Maxine Peake will transfer to the Arcola Theatre in as part of their upcoming Autumn season.

This follows the sell-out run of the production celebrating Beryl Burton at ERT earlier this year. Beryl will run at the Arcola Theatre from the 16th October – 16th November. 

is shortly set to announce its Autumn/Winter season including a world premiere of Horseshoes for Hand Grenades written by Richard Cushing and directed by Eric Loren.

Whilst the theatre is also gearing up for its sixth show Little Women which will be directed by Jake Smith (It’s a Wonderful Life & Goodnight Mister Tom).
