Sam Dunkley, a professional conductor, is bringing his company, Performing Arts etc, to and this summer giving young people aged 8 – 16 the chance to perform in two well-known musicals.

In partnership with East Riding and Music Hub, the music, theatre and dance company will be bringing professionals from stage and screen to the , and Albermarle Music Centre, during the school holidays.

On the first day everyone will learn a song and a short dance routine from the musical before beginning work on the performance itself which is shared at the end of the week. No prior experience is needed and everyone learns the same thing on the same day to create a supportive environment.

Sam himself will be working on both summer schools. He has previously conducted at the , performed for , composed for the and the Arts Council and presented at Symphony Hall.

Most recently he collaborated with The Piece Hall and Calderdale Music Trust to deliver ‘The Big Sing’ going into nine schools to write songs and working with 600 children from 21 Calderdale Council schools, and in November he conducted 850 young people from at the in their performance of Hear , part of the City of Culture.

Sam said;

“I’m passionate about young people from across the region having the opportunity to get involved with performing arts but most importantly I want them to have fun during their summer holidays!”

Children taking part in the project will spend the week working towards a performance of ‘Fame Junior’ from Monday 30 July to Friday 3 August.

Those in Hull will be performing in ‘High School Musical One Act Edition’ following a week of workshops from Monday 20 August to Friday 24 August.

Everyday runs from 10.00am – 4.00pm though children can be dropped off from 9.00am and picked up at 5.00pm and the cost of the week is just £135.
