Richard Smyth is a writer, researcher and editor based in Bradford.

He is a regular contributor to ‘Bird Watching’ magazine, and was a finalist in BBC’s Mastermind show, answering questions on British birds.

Richard describes his book ‘A Wild Sweet Note’ as a book about birdsong, and what it means – not just to the birds, but to readers, too. The songs of birds have worked their way deeply into culture: into literature, science, music, the way people think about and engage with the world around them.

Richard also says that without libraries he would not be a writer – libraries in Leeds, Bradford and Shipley have all played a part in making him first, a book lover and, second, a writer.

On Thursday, 21 June, Richard will be at North Bridlington Library from 2 – 4 pm. This event will be a short outdoor walk (weather permitting) at Danes Dyke – meet first at North Bridlington Library. Transport will be provided to Danes Dyke.

Tickets cost £3.00 and are available from North Bridlington Library or online at: www.bridspa.com/events or the booking line on 01482 392699.
