Beverley Market Traders Raise More Than £2,000 For Hospital Appeal

A fund-raising day held by Beverley Market traders raised more than £2,000 for the Daisy Appeal at Castle Hill Hospital.

Families took part in a children’s treasure hunt and there were great prizes on offer donated by businesses from Beverley and the surrounding area in a grand raffle and a tombola at the event in Saturday Market on Saturday 5 May.

To tie in with the Tour De Yorkshire weekend, shoppers were also challenged to ride as far as they could on a static bicycle in 10 minutes, with a prize for the winner.

All proceeds from the day went towards the Daisy Appeal charity, which is funding a new £7.2million Cyclotron and Radiopharmacy Unit at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham, which will be used to help medics in the earlier detection of cancer, heart disease and dementia.

Organiser Lisa Gray, liaison officer for the Beverley Group of the National Market Traders Association, who runs the Little Cheese Pantry stall, said: “I’m really pleased with the amount we’ve raised for the Daisy Appeal – it’s a lot more than we hoped for.

“There was an amazing atmosphere on the day and we’re all extremely pleased to be handing over more than £2,000 to such an amazing cause.

“I’d like to thank everyone who supported our charity event, local businesses and market traders who donated great prizes to us, the council’s markets staff and everyone who helped on the day.”

The event was supported by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which runs Beverley’s Saturday and Wednesday markets.
