The blue golds now out of the Challenge Cup will switch their attention to the depth of the squad as they continue their preparation for the new season.
Beverley’s Academy team, which will be coached by Phil Horsfield and Phil Young, will be entered in Yorkshire Mens League Alliance League Division 2. They will also be entering the 40/20 cup which will commence in March.
Beverley ARLC say the game should be an opportunity for a number of players who have not seen action during this pre-season to get valuable game-time ahead of the new season.
With the first game in NCL Division 3 at home to Barrow Island on 24 February, the new season is drawing ever closer and places are up for grabs in that initial 17.
Certainly the coaching staff will be looking for good performances from the likes of Dan Clark, Lee Stevens, Will Thompson, Sam Brown, Mike Cooper and Ethan Cambridge who will all be hoping to feature this coming Saturday.
Academy coach, Phil Horsfield says pre-season has been a positive affair with players showing good commitment, speaking ahead of the game he said;
“Big numbers have been turning out at Longcroft since way back in November. Everybody just wants to get out on the park and get that first hit-out.”
“I am itching to get out there too and I will be interested to see how our experienced players blend in with our youngsters who will be getting their first taste of open age rugby.”
Supporters will be welcome for what could should be a good spectacle of local sport, and while it may only be friendly, the action on the pitch is sure to highly competitive.
