has joined forces with the Chewing Gum Action Group (CGAG) to tackle gum litter in the city.

The campaign ‘Bin it your way’ forms part of our ongoing commitment to keep the city clean and tidy and encourage the public to Love Hull Hate Litter.

Love Hull Hate Litter was launched last year to help tackle the wide-spread issue of litter across the city in a concerted effort to get the city clean, and a number of local businesses pledged their support to tackle this issue.

Councillor , portfolio holder for Streetscene, said:

“Chewing gum is a real problem in every town and city and our crews work hard to keep the streets clean, and would ask people to take pride in their city and dispose of gum properly.

“Following the multi-million pound transformation of the city centre, a renewed vibrancy has been brought to key areas and public spaces, and we expect residents and visitors alike to respect it by not dropping chewing gum.

“We want the residents of Hull to be proud of where they live which is why we have partnered with the Chewing Gum Action Group to raise awareness and pro-actively tackle this problem.

“Chewing gum litter is costly and difficult to remove and leaves a long-lasting, ugly stain on our pavements, and we need to eradicate the habitual dropping of this type of litter.”

The council is currently testing a number of machines that can remove staining, chewing gum and spillages to ensure the public realm is kept in a good condition. The machines are due to be in full operation by the end of this year.
