Local runners will have the chance to get their new year of flying start as the local Beverley Lions groups host their annual New Year’s Day Fun Run.
Taking place on Sunday 1 January runners will be given the opportunity to follow either a 3K or 10K route around the streets of Beverley.
Registration on the day will open at from 9.30AM by the Market Cross and will cost just £3 to take part in the 3K and just £5 to take part in the 10K.
Les Ford of the Beverley Westwood Lions said;
“The annual Fun Run is a very important event for the club as it allows us to raise money which we can then put back into the local community.”
“As an event it is always great fun. For us that is what it is all about, people having fun while supporting the local community. Runners are very welcome to turn up in fancy dress, we just want everyone who takes part to enjoy themselves.”
A popular event hundreds of runners are expected to take part.
Last year just 190 people participated in the Beverley Lions Fun Run though Mr. Ford hopes more will take part this year, he said;
“As the Fun Run increases in popularity we are hoping that this year we will get around 200 or more runners take part in the two races. All of the runners who complete either of the distances will get a special medal.”
Mr. Ford is also hoping that weather is kind to them and that the event is not called off. In the past ten years the race was has only ever had to be cancelled once.
“May I also take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the Beverley Lions groups in 2016 and wish all the residents of Beverley on behalf of the Lions a very happy and prosperous New Year.”
