India Alton Wins Yorkshire Pole Championship Title

India Alton who has been running pole dancing classes in Beverley for the past three months is celebrating after winning a Yorkshire Pole Championship Title.

Held at the University of Hull, India says she was surprised to win the Professional title, speaking about her success, she said:

“When I entered this year’s Yorkshire Pole Championships, I had not yet started teaching pole dancing. I had to enter the professional level category as I would be teaching by the time the finals came around.”

“It was a complete surprise that I managed to even get through to the finals. To then go on and win my category was a huge achievement for me.”

“You will often see a variety of different styles performed. Some competitors love to show off their most challenging tricks, some love to tell a story. Personally, I love to tell a story and to portray strong emotions through my routines.”

Organised by Lisa Oxtoby, the event saw numerous pole dancers showcase their skills. India says that taking part in events like this really helps her to focus on improving. She said:

“Competitions allow dancers to push themselves to perfect their skills, to give them that motivation which in turn makes them healthier, stronger and more skilled.”

“Every competition I have taken part in has always had such amazing supportive people involved front and back stage.”

“I encourage all pole dancers to pluck up the courage to apply for the next competition and give it a go. It is hard work, but it’s rewarding in so many ways.”

Her latest title means that India has won four competitions having won a National competition called Pole Theatre UK (Amateur) where she was the ‘Overall Winner’. India then went on to win first place in the Advanced Experienced category at The Lincolnshire Pole Championships, she also won ‘Best Routine’ and ‘Miss Trixter’ at Studio Boutique’s Pole Pageant, Hull.
