Two of Town Council’s annual events, which celebrate local food, have been short-listed for Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards (REYTAs).

The Beverley Food Festival held in the town’s market place, and the Christmas Festival of Food & Drink held inside have each been nominated in the category of ‘Remarkable Sustainable Tourism Award’. The Beverley Food Festival has also been nominated in the category of ‘Remarkable Tourism Event/Experience Award’.

Run by Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY), the REYTAs recognise the best and brightest in this area’s tourism industry.

Competition to be nominated for an Award was very high in 2014, with VHEY being ‘inundated’ with applications for consideration. A total of 71 businesses from across Hull and the East Riding are shortlisted for an award, across 12 categories.

The winners of the REYTAs will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at Bridlington on Thursday, March 13.

Beverley Town Clerk, Helen Watson said: “We are proud and delighted to have been short-listed for these prestigious Awards. The Beverley Food Festival, and the Christmas Festival of Food & Drink, each celebrate local food, its producers and growers. Both events have grown in popularity, both with residents and tourists, year-on-year.

“These seasonal events reflect the Town Council’s commitment to supporting local businesses, and the local economy, and help to attract visitors from right across the country to come and enjoy the very best of the region’s local food and drink, in our beautiful medieval market town of Beverley.”

The two seasonal events were supported by ’s Big Lottery funded Local Food project called ‘From Field to Table’, which aims to help make locally grown food accessible and affordable for everyone.
