The Good Life: Burden Road Youth Centre

along with other staff and volunteers at are nearing the end of a project that has seen them develop a garden.

The project has given the youngsters a chance to make a real impact and gain valuable experience in number of skills that include brick laying.

Their efforts mainly go unnoticed though every Saturday they continue to not only work on the garden but also take to the streets around Swinemoor and clean up the litter from within their community.

Chris said;

“The young receive no reward for the dirty and unpleasant work that they do except for self satisfaction and learning the values of community involvement.”

“We are currently enhancing an outside area adjacent to the centre to develop and grow vegetables, provide seating areas repairs to an old dwarf wall, patio area. This will be maintained by the young people for the young people but also enjoyed by other members of the community during the day”

When completed the youth centre are hoping to hold a special open day where they will invite members of the community to come for refreshments and to look around the garden.
