Local artist, Shirley Davis Dew, has been named as the winner of the People’s Choice Competition, which was run as part of the 2010 East Riding Open Art Exhibition, at the Beverley Art Gallery.
The competition was the first in the exhibition’s 15 year history and was voted for by the public, with 280 votes cast.
Shirley’s painting, Walking Home, won the most votes and she was presented with a bottle of wine and £25.
The prize was sponsored by the Friends of Beverley Art Gallery, a group made up of members of the public who are interested in supporting the work of the gallery.
There are around 250 members whose annual subscriptions fund projects such as conservation work and picture purchases. The Friends also help with events at the gallery and organise social activities.
