Beverley Town CC Vs Clifton Alliance

Club slumped to a heavy defeat against Clifton Alliance at the on Saturday in the York and District Senior League Premier Division.

Clifton consolidated second spot as they chased down Beverley’s insubstanial 187-7 for the loss of just five wickets.

On a stifling hot day perfect for batting, the home side failed to really capitalise on good batting conditions. Andrew Burton made 59 and Jon Vodden 49, but little other support saw them post a disappointing total.

In reply, (4-59) gave Beverley some hope with an excellent spell with the new ball, taking four early wickets to reduce Clifton to 67-4.

But with John Gilham (45) anchoring the innings, Jason Gatus was given freedom to go for his shots and he smashed an unbeaten 73 off just 65 balls as the visitors reached 190 for the loss of just five wickets.
