Bandits Vs Bridlington

The Bandits playing at Beverley Club this afternoon, the Bandits made light work of Bridlington who ‘borrowed’ a Beverley player to make up numbers.

Beverley Bandits 58 Bridlington 5

The Bandits entertained Bridlington at on Saturday and recorded a resounding victory over their neighbours to maintain a 100% winning start to the season.

Prior to kick off however; Influential fly half, Keith Graham, suffered yet another injury setback when he tore a groin muscle. The Bandits had already lent Bridlington 5 players and the Beverley 2nd team 3 players, so were limited in their replacements. He tried to continue but was pulled off by the Bandits female physio, which he enjoyed, but his team mates were dismayed as they had to settle for oranges instead.

This injury setback though meant that the Bandits could hand a debut to young South African, who would be partnering the New Zealand scrum half, Trevor Hodgett and meant that Keith Graham could retire to the bar. Italian twins, Phil and Duncan Rannini had called for commitment from the Bandits right from the kick off to ensure they maintained this fine start to the season.

The Bandits started at a frenetic pace but were denied try scoring opportunities by some stout defending from Bridlington. It took a while for the Bandits to register the first score of the game and it came from a fine break by the No 8, Irishman Chesney Gallagher who rounded the defence to score in the corner. Conversion missed 5-0. Bridlington were still in the game and made several inroads into the Bandits defence which gave Mongolian full back, Paul Warburton, some defensive duties to carry out.

The relentless Bandits pressure started to tell on the Bridlington defence and it was prop forward, Scotsman Ken Brown, who forced his way over for the next converted score. 12-0.The second row pairing of Welshmen, Wayne Brown and Rich Hatfield was working quite well in the middle of the park, ably assisted by Stuart Biglad, (country of origin unknown). T

he game had become quite open by now and the young debutant, Chris Infield was now bossing things around the park and was able to work some fine moves with the three quarters which had Frenchman, Darien Ros`e, creating havoc for the Bridlington defence. Half time brought some respite for a plucky Bridlington side but it would only be for a short while before the floodgates opened and the Bandits would show why they are the Championship favourites.

Danish export Stefan James was having a fine game in the centre along with Michyeller Bouits and winger James Burgess. Cornishman, Rob Craig, was his usual self, disrupting the play at every opportunity for both sides and Gordon Jenney capped a fine performance with only 4 conversions from a possible 10, all in front of the posts. Sergio Garcia, who had been loaned by the Bandits to Bridlington came up with the only score by the opposition to end the game 58-5. This week the Bandits are at home to Pocklington so I expect a big turnout from the Bandits Home summer squad. The match sponsors this week are SAGA holidays.

The kick is good, as the Bandits add more pionts with another converted try
