A Hull City Council pilot scheme to automatically identify and register eligible children for free school meals has helped ensure 750 additional pupils are now receiving the support they are entitled to.

The auto-enrolment pilot, launched earlier this year, was designed to make it easier for families to access free school meals without the need for a separate application. The scheme has proven a major success – increasing uptake across the city and helping Hull’s schools secure more than £1 million via Pupil Premium funding for the 2025/26 academic year.

Hull City Council to commence emergency carriageway resurfacing works at the Brighton Street roundabout, located beneath the A63 – near St Andrews Quay Retail Park. 

Providing a key access point to the A63, this scheme will address urgent repairs required on the carriageway and assist National Highways, who need to use the area for an upcoming diversion. This scheme will ensure the diversion is safe and reliable for all users.

Hull’s famous Fish Trail is the focus of a new exhibition at the Pier Street pop up called The Critical Fish Trail.  55 artists, writers and poets have each created new works inspired by Gordon Young’s much loved fish trail. Each of the fish on the trail is the inspiration for new creative work, set alongside research into each of the species. Are they thriving, threatened or endangered?

A Yorkshire man has raised more than £1,500 for Alzheimer’s Research UK after completing the Yorkshire Marathon in honour of his sister, who is living with a rare inherited form of dementia and is cared for at Beechwood Care Centre in the town.

Luke Glover took on the challenge to raise awareness of Familial Alzheimer’s Disease (FAD), a genetic condition that claimed his father’s life and now affects his sister. His efforts have helped shine a light on this little-known form of dementia, which accounts for less than 1% of all Alzheimer’s cases.

Humber Forest, the community forest for Hull, East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire, has launched a new strategy for its work for the next 25 years.

It is committed to ensuring that it plants the ‘right tree in the right place for the right reason,’ and to working with communities, landowners and external agencies to increase tree cover and maintain existing woodland.

The Hulloween Spooktacular @ Trinity Market, organised by HullBID and part funded by Hull City Council will be a fun-packed day of free performances and activities for families to enjoy, starting at 10am and finishing at 5pm.

A new pop-up Winter Wellness Hub is launching at North Point Shopping Centre from 27 to 29 October, offering free childhood flu vaccines, interactive health education, and winter wellness giveaways to help the local community stay healthy this winter.

Organised by NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) in partnership with Vaccinations UK, the hub invites everyone to “Say Boo to Flu” by learning more about staying well during winter and where to go if you need support or care.

Hull’s Family Hubs successfully passed Stage One of the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation, on the first attempt.

The Baby Friendly Initiative is a global programme transforming healthcare for babies, their mothers and families as part of a wider global partnership between UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO).  

This December, Christmas at Langlands Garden Centre will be bigger, brighter, and more magical than ever as the sparkle of the season meets the excitement of the circus.

From Saturday 13th December to Saturday 4th January, Cirquoise will take centre stage with a breathtaking 45-minute performance every day except Monday 15th December, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

A project to improve a section of a road and footpath in Goole is due to begin in November. 

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will invest £196,000 in a scheme to upgrade Seavy Road in Goole, between the junctions of Anderson Road and Grange Road.
