Hull’s City Open Top Bus Tours Return - And They Are Better Than Ever

Hull’s open top city tour will return for 2018, and this time it’ll run for even longer. The Hull Explorer open top tour bus was launched in Summer 2017, taking visitors on a guided tour around the city to see Hull’s most iconic sights, such as Queen Victoria Square, Old Town, Hull Minster, The Deep and the Marina.

Run by local bus company EYMS, will run for the early May bank holiday weekend and May half term this year, as well as an extended run over the summer holidays and follows what was a successful 2017 season.

A Hull band who’ve played for the rich and famous all over the world but who remain relatively unknown in their home city, are looking forward to playing a rare major live gig in East Yorkshire next month.

The Tzars style themselves as a weddings and corporate functions band and as such have entertained for major names, including Mercedes-Benz, Shell, Asda and Vision Express. On one occasion they were hired to play for former Formula 1 racing driver and team boss Eddie Jordan’s niece’s wedding.

Hull’s first four-star hotel has been revealed as the venue for one of the most prestigious events in the Hull and East Riding calendar – the gala dinner for this year’s regional tourism awards, the REYTAs.

The DoubleTree by Hilton in Ferensway is preparing to roll out the red carpet for the awards night on Thursday March 15 for what will be the new hotel’s biggest event to date.

New Tourism Strategy To Be Unveiled At Conference

Business leaders from across the region will be reflecting on the success of Hull 2017 while getting the first look at the county’s tourism strategy for the next five years when they attend next week’s annual tourism conference organised by Visit Hull and East Yorkshire.

Some 250 delegates will be attending Thursday’s (November 9) event at the Mercure Grange Park Hotel in Willerby and will hear from Fran Hegyi, executive director Hull 2017, and Matt Jukes, chief executive of Hull City Council, reflecting on all that has been achieved during City of Culture, before listening to industry expert Professor John Lennon, who will unveil VHEY’s new five-year tourism plan.

Beverley Guest House Owner Fined Over Misleading Four-star Rating

The owner of a Beverley guest house whose guests complained of dirty rooms needs to pay over £7,000 after admitting to falsely claiming the establishment had a four-star rating.

John Dixon Hart, 53 of Keldgate, Beverley and owner of Beverley Guest House, formerly known as Minster Garth Guest House, appeared at Beverley Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 19 July where he pleaded guilty to charges of advertising and running a guest house below the minimum standards expected by consumers as well as one charge of using misleading adverts to suggest the guesthouse was of four-star standard.
