One of the city’s favourite charity retailers is bringing a new, exciting store to Hull.

Dove House Hospice run 36 other outlets across Hull and East Yorkshire, including two Re-use shops, Humber Wood Project, No. 87 Vintage and Retro and The Wedding Loft, are now adding a new venture to their high street presence with the introduction of Reworked.

The Reworked shop, will be opening on Tuesday 29th March at 10.30am and will be selling upcycled and refurbished items, including furniture, art, homewares and soft furnishings.

The shop is the product of a collaboration between the hospice and HMP Hull where the charity runs a workshop dedicated to reworking and reimagining items that have been donated and cannot be sold in other Dove House outlets because they are broken or incomplete.

Marisa Haines, head of retail at Dove House House, said:

“We are really proud of the Reworked project and can’t wait to open the shop doors and start raising more funds for the hospice! Every piece in the shop is one of a kind and has been restyled in some way either by the prisoners in our workshop at HMP Hull or by one of the many volunteers supporting Reworked.

The project also means we are sending less to recycling. Previously items that could not be sold in our other shops would have to be discarded, now they are sent to Reworked and are turned in to something unique and will be sold to raise funds to help local people.”

Tom Leech, industries manager at HMP Hull, said:

“The Reworked project is something that I’m honoured to be part of.  The workshop teaches prisoners new skills that they will be able to use on release to hopefully find employment whilst at the same time raising money for such a wonderful charity.

“All money raised from the furniture goes to Dove House and the lads are extremely proud to be putting something back into the community.  I can’t wait to see the shop open and I hope the public will get behind this project to help raise money for the hospice.”

As well as encouraging people to visit the shop and pick up a bespoke item for their homes at a fantastic price, the charity is also looking for volunteer crafters to help with the project. Volunteers can be based in the shop or upcycle from home, with all materials provided – simply call the shop on 01482 715564 for more information.

The Reworked shop will be open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm and can be found at the Ings Centre, Savoy Road, Hull.

Dove House continues to diversify and creatively think of new ways to raise money. As well as the high street shops, the hospice has an increasing online presence which means they can continue to raise the much-needed income to fund their vital service.
