East Riding College has recently received a very positive Ofsted report under the new, tougher 2019 education inspection framework.

The College, which has campuses in and and a site in Hull, has now maintained its “good” status for over a decade following November’s short inspection visit.

Inspectors praised the “friendly and supportive learning environment,” the College’s progression routes that are “carefully thought out to ensure that learners and apprentices are able to develop their careers further on completion of their programme,” and the close alignment of its courses with the skills needs of the local economy. The report also highlighted that all learners receive access to valuable careers education activities.

Principal and Chief Executive Mike Welsh said;

“I am very proud of our students and staff, who have all contributed in some way to the report’s outcome. Our excellent achievement rates, which this year have again risen – to nearly 91% – and our 93% progression rates, which show how many of our students progress to work or university, reinforce the inspectors’ findings that we are providing our students with excellent learning opportunities.

“This is thanks in no small part to the hard work of our wonderful teaching staff who demonstrate their professionalism, innovation and unwavering dedication to their students on a daily basis.”

He added;

“Inspectors clearly recognised that our students enjoy their time at College, feel safe and well supported, and develop very positive relationships with their tutors and peers. This is a true reflection of what’s it’s like to be a student at East Riding College and I couldn’t be prouder of that. Well done ‘Team ERC’.”

, Chair of the Corporation, said;

“My fellow governors and I are delighted with the consistency and robustness the College has shown under the scrutiny of the new, tougher inspection regime.”

“Since its inception, East Riding College has recorded year-on-year improvements across all kinds of quality measures, and outcomes for learners are generally excellent. It has also transformed its campuses to become one of the best-equipped colleges nationally.”

“2020 will see the addition of the Yorkshire and Humber Institute of Technology at its Beverley campus and a proposed merger with the TEC Partnership. Even though we have experienced an era of challenging funding cuts, the future looks very bright for the College and its students.”
