Ennerdale Leisure Centre is to receive a £1.76million facelift. Work on the project will be starting on site mid-July.

In order to prepare for the work, the centre will close to the public on Monday 1 July. However, a number of pre-planned lessons and a gala will still take place up until Friday 14 July.

Throughout the duration of the works, which are expected to last around six months, centre users are encouraged to use any of the council’s excellent alternative facilities across the city.

The planned works will refurbish all of the centre’s electrical and mechanical services. There are also upgrades planned for the filtration, ventilation and cold water systems.

The main reception area and café will be given a facelift. Also, the sauna space and inclusion of dedicated disabled changing facilities will be improved. Furthermore, there will be an update of the fitness gym and studio.

Councillor Daren Hale, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, including land and property said:

“I am delighted this refurbishment is going ahead. It will ensure this key venue is operational for years to come.

“Ennerdale is a much-loved leisure centre. I know Hull Culture and Leisure are working hard with currently using the centre to accommodate them in other venues as much as possible.

Ennerdale Leisure Centre Project Will Provide Enhanced Experience

“When this work was announced, we made a commitment to look at how we can assist those users living close to Ennerdale during the busy summer holidays. We are currently exploring how we can make this happen with bus companies and hope to confirm any arrangements as soon as possible.

“When the centre re-opens it will provide an enhanced experience for users which I’m sure will prove to be more popular than ever before.”

Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, Chair of Hull Culture and leisure said:

“It’s great to see the council making this investment into such a popular venue. It will ensure all users have an enhanced experience.”

Ennerdale is expected to re-open in January 2020. Any users of Ennerdale will have access to all other facilities, the closest being Woodford on Holderness Road and Beverley Road baths.

The outdoor cycle track will be open to pre-booked club use.
