Lit Up Festival 2017 – Focus On Sophie Hannah

Sophie Hannah returns to the festival to talk about her new psychological thriller, a book that has been described since its publication in August as “her absolute best” by Liz Nugent, her “best contemporary novel to date” by the Sunday Times, and “explosive” by Heat Magazine. Indeed Did You See Melody? is a gripping standalone page-turner about the most famous murder victim in America – except… what if she is not dead?

As if this was not enough, Sophie will also introduce Deadlier, her personal selection of 100 crime stories written by women, from Agatha Christie to Val McDermid. Sophie’s range and knowledge of crime-writing is kaleidoscopic and impressive. Given the ceaseless appetite for crime writing, she is an attractive proposition. As track records go, hers makes for impressive reading:

Sophie is published in 32 languages and 51 territories. In 2014, at the request of Agatha Christie’s family and estate, Sophie published a new Hercule Poirot novel, The Monogram Murders, which was a bestseller in more than 15 countries. In September 2016 her second Poirot novel became an instant Sunday Times top ten bestseller.

In 2013, Sophie’s novel The Carrier won the Crime Thriller of the Year Award at the Specsavers National Book Awards. Two of her crime novels, The Point of Rescue and The Other Half Lives, have been adapted for television and appeared on ITV1 under the series title Case Sensitive in 2011 and 2012.

She also has the writer’s skill of incorporating dodgy things that have befallen her into her books. So we can fairly say that Sophie is a crime writer with form.
