Essential maintenance works on Newland Avenue will take place from Monday, September 11 for six weeks.

Newland Avenue will be closed to through to allow these essential carriageway maintenance works to be carried out, and 3,800 letters are to be delivered to residents and businesses in the surrounding area.

The works will be split into five phases to minimise the disruption.

During each phase, a section of road (details below) will be closed from Monday to Friday, 7:30am until 6:00pm.

During phase five, the Newland Avenue/Cottingham Road junction will be closed between 7:00pm to 6:00am for five nights.

There are no planned works on the weekends and no restrictions on pedestrians accessing Newland Avenue for the duration of the works.

Councillor , Portfolio Holder with responsibility for Streetscene, said:

“Our priority for the duration of these essential works it to cause the minimum disruption and nearly 4000 letters are being sent to residents and businesses to warn them of the upcoming works.

“The majority have already been notified of resurfacing works in the area in and as stated, the work will take around six weeks, including some short overnight and daytime closures of small sections of the street at a time.

“Businesses will be open as usual for the duration of these works, and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience incurred. It is essential these works are carried out.”

• Phase one: 11 – 20 September, Newland Avenue between Ella Street and Lambert Street will be closed, 07.30 – 18:00

• Phase two: September 21 – October 2, Newland Avenue between Lambert Street to and including Edgecumbe Street will be closed, 07.30 – 18:00

• Phase three: October 3 – October 9, Newland Avenue between Melbourne Street and Raglan Street will be closed, 07.30 – 18:00

• Phase four: October 10 – October 16, Newland Avenue between Sidmouth Street and Walgrave Street will be closed, 07.30 – 18:00

The signed diversion route for phases one to four of the works is via Queens Road, Beverley Road and Cottingham Road for north and westbound vehicles and vice versa for south and eastbound vehicles.

• Phase five: October 16 – October 20, the Newland Avenue and Cottingham Road junction will be closed

The signed diversion route for this phase will be via Queens Road, Beverley Road, Inglemire Lane and Cranbrook Avenue for northbound vehicles and vice versa.

Advance warning signs will be displayed for motorists and access will be maintained at all times for emergency service vehicles, however scheduled bus services will be diverted during the hours of the closures.
