Not for the 1st time this season were by far the better team but ended up on the losing side against much bigger Myton Warriors side.

Short on numbers but big on courage the braves took it to Myton early with Charlie Gay setting the tone with the first tackle of the match.

Chopping down the biggest on the field after 5 seconds of play, some of the defence was fantastic with diminutive hooker Shamus Blades leading the way in the middle of the park alongside his props Olly Gresswell and motm Jake Glover who’s all action style is contributing so much to this young side at present.

With everyone from wingers Gorgeous George Spivey and Bryan Usher to debutant forward Jordan Finch sharing the graft scrum half Joe McCabe and Gay controlled the game with ease behind a confident kicking game, however the braves just couldn’t shake them off and with the game poised at 16 apiece with 5 to go fatigue was the enemy, Ryan Deane ran himself into the ground as did back rowers Isaac Merryweather and Owen Lightfoot, all 3 having fine games.

In fact, despite the late loss the braves can take confidence as they created at least 3 try scoring opportunities to win the game themselves, the ball moving quickly to the edge where centres Owen Miller and were threats all morning but it just wasn’t meant to be.

Skipper for the day Chris Martin deserves the last word as he pushed Glover and Blades for motm with another, now typical superb performance from full back.

Afterwards a thoughtful coach Craig Collins chose to quote his hero Arnold Schwarzenegger when he said;

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.”

Final Score : Beverley braves 16 Myton Warriors 26
