John Turner from Beverley Fair Trade is on the lookout for more people to join the group so they can organise more events in the town.

Mr. Turner was speaking following the success of their efforts during Fair Trade Fortnight that took place at the start of March.

During the two weeks Beverley Fair Trade held a stall at their usual spot in the centre of Beverley and also at the out of town retail park .

Speaking to HU17.net Mr. Turner said;

“Beverley has been a Fairtrade town for 10 years and is celebrating this fact during 2017. We were active in Fairtrade Fortnight during the first 2 weeks of March.”

“Normally we are based in the centre of Beverley. We asked about staging something at Flemingate and were offered one of their empty units free of charge.”

“For us being away from the town centre we got to engage with a different set of people.”

“There was lots of interest from young people who wanted selfies with the us dressed as a banana.”

“We had a Fairtrade shop on the Flemingate site for two days promoting and selling Fairtrade goods like coffee and biscuits as while we spread the word on shoppers.”

“One of our members, including myself, was visible wearing a Fairtrade banana suit to draw attention to the shop and wandered up and down the site.”

“Beverley Fairtrade Group is keen to recruit new members to join so that more events can be planned for the future.”
