Santa and his trusty elves will fling open the doors to the region’s biggest Christmas grotto at ’s popular centre on Saturday, November 19.

Fresh from his sleigh journey from the North Pole, Father Christmas is using his magical powers to transform one of Flemingate’s units into an enchanting Christmas kingdom.

Snow-capped trees, twinkling lights and a wintery landscape will surround a magnificent castle where Santa’s busy band of elves work night and day to make all the presents for local boys and girls.

Despite it being his busiest time of year, Father Christmas will be at the Flemingate grotto from November 19 through to Christmas Eve to find out what all the good girls and boys would like to receive for Christmas this year.

Set in a sparkling winter wonderland setting, Santa’s elves will have lots of activities to keep the family entertained while they wait to meet Santa, including a special play area provided by The Entertainer toy store.

Graham Tait, Flemingate Centre Manager, said: “It’s wonderful that we’re able to house this huge Santa’s grotto at Flemingate, which will give children and families a fantastic festive experience.

“I don’t want to spoil the surprise, because we’re keeping the grotto under wraps until Santa welcomes the children in, but we’re really excited about it. The grotto has been designed and built from scratch and is based on a traditional castle theme set in a winter wonderland landscape. It looks amazing – the youngsters will absolutely love it!

“There will also be activities to keep the youngsters occupied while they wait to see Santa and we’re expecting the grotto to be hugely popular, so I would recommend parents book tickets in advance via our website.”

You can meet Santa and his magical elves for just £5, which includes a Christmas gift. Tickets are available at the grotto or you can book in advance on the Flemingate website at www.flemingate.co.uk

Opening times for the grotto vary, so please check on the Flemingate website. Group discounts for school and nursery visits are also available. Please call 01482 320088 for details.

The grotto will make Flemingate an even more fabulous place to visit during the festive season when the centre will be a magnet for Christmas shoppers.

With a host of big retail brands, high-quality independent retailers, a great selection of dining options and a busy programme of events, the Flemingate centre is the perfect place to get all your Christmas gifts and enjoy the seasonal spirit.

A Christmas Trail also launches on Saturday, November 19, at Flemingate when visitors can collect festive clues from shops and at the popular centre. Once all the clues are collected, people will need to decipher a coded message for a chance to win an amazing family hamper of gifts and five runners-up prizes.

The Christmas Trail will run until midnight on Thursday, December 22. Entry forms are available at all stores and the winner will be drawn on Friday, December 23.

Mr Tait added:

“Father Christmas is arriving at Flemingate soon, but the Christmas shopping season is well and truly under way here. We’re really busy welcoming people from near and far to Flemingate to experience a fabulous Christmas time.

“With some of the biggest names in retail, great restaurants and cafés, the area’s biggest Santa’s grotto, the Christmas trail and so much more, Flemingate really is the place to be this festive time.”
