Flemingate To Host Beverley’s First Teenage Market

Beverley’s Flemingate development is to host an exciting free event aimed at giving young creative traders and talented performers the opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial skills and trade their wares in a real marketplace environment.

The Teenage Market is a growing nationwide initiative, set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom in Stockport in 2012, as a way to support local young people by providing a free platform for them to try out new business ideas, test their entrepreneurial skills, and sell their products.

As well as a creative retail offer, Teenage Markets also include some type of performance element, giving young people, aged between 12-29 years, the chance to perform in front of an audience and demonstrate their unique skills and talents.

Flemingate Centre Manager, Graham Tait, said: “We’re really looking forward to hosting the Teenage Market at Flemingate in June.

“It’s the first event of its kind to come to Beverley and we anticipate between 20 and 40 stalls will be set up in the area in front of East Riding College and Parkway Cinema.

“It will certainly increase footfall into Beverley as a whole, as well as attracting young people who have an entrepreneurial flair to the area.

“There’ll be music, performers and food as well as creative retail on offer, so will be a great day out for all the family.”

Part of the Humber Business Week 2016, this exciting event is organised by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in partnership with East Riding College and . The free event will be held on Sunday, June 5, at Flemingate, kick-starting the popular annual Business Week programme.

Kath Lavery, Chair of Humber Business Week, said: “The Teenage Market will be a wonderful addition to the programme and hopefully will break down any barriers that have stopped our young entrepreneurs from getting involved in Business Week.

“We want to see a packed first day, and then see the young people who attend at Beverley at other events throughout the week. As we say every year, there is thousands of pounds worth of business advice available to all, for free.”

The lively Teenage Market hopes to bring energy and vibrancy to the already bustling market town of Beverley and attract a new generation of shoppers and visitors to the town.

Visitors and families will be able to enjoy a creative retail experience, watch live performances and partake in the quality food and drink on offer, in a boutique festival environment.

The Teenage Market will be held at Flemingate on Sunday, June 5, from 10am to 4pm.

Aspiring young traders or performers aged 12-29 years can apply online to take part in the Teenage Market (young people under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). The closing date is Sunday, May 29, 2016.
