Town Bounce Back With Style As They Thrash Hedon

Beverley Town Academy took to the field eager to bounce back from the heavy defeat at the hands of rivals last week.

In difficult conditions, Town started well, playing high tempo football and creating some good early chances. The first goal came on 15 minutes after some great pressure from Town’s skipper Mike Martin, with Danny Dawes taking full advantage to slot home from 10 yards.

10 minutes later, a Town made it 2-0, with a super move down the right-hand side. Stew Scott played a one two with Dawes, and pulled back a perfect ball for Mike Martin to finish with aplomb in the bottom left-hand corner.

Jake McMullen made it 3-0 shortly after when Ryan Overington got the better of his man down the left and cut the ball back to the right-hand corner of the 18-yard box.

McMullen was Jonny on the spot, and fired a thunderbolt into the top left-hand corner of the goal giving the keeper no chance. Town went in 3-0 up at half time, a great effort considering they were playing into a very strong wind and driving rain.

The second half ticked over without many incidents until the 60th minute when skipper Mike Martin grabbed his second goal of the game with a fine curled shot that sailed into the roof of the net.

Hedon created a couple of chances, but keeper Ollie Thane was on hand to deal with the threat, and was expertly protected by the three centre halves, Waller, Gradham and Mcanerney.

Town created one more chance, but midfielder couldn’t convert after his driving run opened up the defence, only for his shot to be saved easily by the keeper. The game ended 4-0 to Town.

Academy manager Rich Jagger was pleased with the performance, he said;

“To bounce back from last week with a performance like that was really pleasing.”

“We scored four super goals, and kept our first clean sheet of the season. We said before the match that we wanted to put a run of victories together so let’s hope this is the start of that run.”

Final Score: Beverley Town Academy 4 Reserves 0
