Tour de Yorkshire Trophy To Go Public Display In Beverley

Beverley’s residents will have their chance to get close up and personal to the Trophy when it will be put on display in the town this coming Saturday.

Ahead of the first ever Tour de Yorkshire cycle race which will see the event pass through the streets of Beverley on 2 May the trophy is currently undergoing one-week tour around the East Riding.

Designed made in Yorkshire by a company called Thomas Fattorini Ltd the trophy is already touring schools throughout the East Riding.

On Saturday, 25 April between 11 AM and 2 PM, the trophy be on display to the general public at the in Beverley’s .

Councillor Pat O’Neil, chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“Hosting the trophy ahead of the inaugural event on 1-3 May will really bring the event to life in the East Riding and help generate interest ahead of the race.”

“It is anticipated that up to one million visitors will come to Yorkshire over the three days and, with the race taking in so many of our towns and villages, it is an excellent opportunity to showcase our area to a national and international audience and put the East Riding on the map.”

The trophy was symbolically passed over the county line from the North Riding to the East Riding of Yorkshire, on the A165, by County Councillor Tim Swales, chairman of North Yorkshire County Council, to his opposite number at East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Commenting on the event councillor Swales said;

“We have had a wonderful week hosting the iconic Tour de Yorkshire Trophy in our county. We’re delighted that people of all ages have had the opportunity to see it and the trophy has gone into schools, leisure centres, libraries and tourist information centres as well as some of our main visitor locations.”

“Some of our next generation of cyclists got the chance to see the trophy for themselves and be inspired to enjoy the sport even more at our bikeability training courses.”
