Scouts Leader Expresses His Gratitude Top Kind Hearted Shoppers

A local Scout leader has thanks Tesco after they were able to fund raise in the Beverley Store on .

Packing bags for shoppers the managed to raise a staggering £779 which they say will be used to purchased camping equipment and help fund a special trip.

Commenting on the bag pack Darren Burgess, Group Scout Leader, said;

“We are really grateful to the customers of Tesco for their donations.  Baden Powell, who founded the Scout movement once said that ‘a week of camp life is worth six months of theoretical teaching in the classroom’ and we will use some of the money raised to buy extra camping equipment.”

“The rest of it will be put towards our trip to Peak 2015 – an international Scout and Guide camp taking place in the grounds of Chatsworth House this summer.”

Local scouts will join thousands of other young at what will be the 9th Peak Camp. The first Peak Camp took place in 1974 and became a ‘five-yearly’ event from 1980 all by kind permission of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.

With the Scouting movement being very popular, groups in Beverley are always on the lookout for new people so more youngsters can enjoy the benefits, Mr. Burgess added;

“Scouting continues to offer fun and friendship, challenge and everyday adventure to 400,000 girls and boys across the UK.”

“However, with over 35,000 on waiting lists nationwide we are always looking for additional adult volunteers, so more young people can join the adventure.”
