Longcroft’s A-Level Results Among The Best in the Country

For the second consecutive year, A-Level results were the best in the East Riding. Longcroft’s students again made more progress than those in other schools and colleges, exceeding expected targets.

Having also finished 7th in the Yorkshire and Humber Region in 2013, the school is delighted to have improved to 4th this summer, again making England’s top 100 – a league table that includes all 6th Forms and sees the comprehensive schools pitted against private schools and 6th Form colleges.

Andy Baker, who leads Longcroft’s 6th Form, said;

“We are delighted to have topped the local league table again. Competition is strong, but to have the best results in our area, which includes Hull, for the second year running by a significant margin is excellent.”

“There are various ways of measuring results, but the progress students make between their GCSEs and A-Levels is the most important and the only way of comparing providers.”

“You can measure the number of A* grades, and many of our students earn these, but to compare you have to take into account students’ starting points – the GCSE results they joined the 6th Form with.”

“Our results mean that students of all abilities make tremendous progress, and the message is that if you want to succeed there is no better place to do so in this area than Longcroft.”

Longcroft offers a wide range of subjects at A-Level, from English Literature and Maths to Dance, Accounting, Textiles and Philosophy.

With the majority of students come from the school’s Year 11, Longcroft’s success has led to interest from other areas of the East Riding and a link with Bishop Burton College has seen students studying on the AASE Rugby Union programme able to study their A-Levels at the school.

Mr Baker commented;

“While our 6th Form is big enough that we can offer a range of over 30 A-Level courses students enjoy a welcoming environment where they can all get to know each other.”

“Through the AASE programme, students from across the north of England are studying with us, and they fit in as if they’d been at Longcroft since Year 7.”

“Longcroft is delighted to be able to offer A-Level provision comparable with anywhere in the country. Congratulations to the students, their families and the teachers and staff who made 2014 another exceptional year.”
