Photography Competition Gets Hundreds Of Entries

One hundred and sixty five amateur photographers have snapped 450 entries for the second Capturing the East Riding Competition, with the theme @Work, Rest and Play – Capturing Life in the East Riding.

Judges will choose the best photographs which depict people at work, rest or play in the local area, with entries, including a good number of rural, countryside and coastal images as well as of agriculture.

Photos also covered an array of festivals and events, including the Folk Festival, the Driffield Steam Rally, Bridlington’s Scoter Rally, races at and the re-enactment of the Battle of Stamford Bridge.

Participants will now have the chance to win one of many great prizes, with judges deciding on the winners in February.

The top 100 photographs will be exhibited at the Beverley Art Gallery, Goole Museum, Pocklington Arts Centre and The Spa Gallery, Bridlington, in 2015-16.

Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for civic wellbeing and culture at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“We know there are a lot of good photographers in the East Riding, with the first contest in 2010 demonstrating this by the sheer quality of the entries

“The second competition has been just as impressive, with entries really capturing the essence of what it is to work, rest and play in the East Riding.

“I would like to thank all of those who have entered the competition and wish them the very best of luck as the winning entries are drawn.”

Hilary Saynor, chair of the East Riding Cultural Partnership, said:

“The second Capturing the East Riding amateur photography competition has been a real success, with some truly remarkable entries submitted from some very talented amateur photographers.”

“All the images are available for the public to view on Flickr and help capture the moments and locations that make the East Riding of Yorkshire a great place to work, rest and play.”
